The Faculty of Medicine (FMED) and Faculty of Biological Sciences (FBS) at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invite interested candidates to apply for a tenure-track position and joint appointment at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The position will have a joint affiliation with FMED (1st affiliation) and FBS.

The objective of this call is to enhance area of clinical and epidemiological research in the field of infectious disease in both units and the university.

The applicants must demonstrate successful, independent, and interdisciplinary research. In addition, they will be expected to demonstrate their ability to teach undergraduate and graduate students in these areas, including the training of new scientists.

Role description: The applicant should have an outstanding publication track record in Clinical Research and/or Epidemiology in infectious diseases, with the potential to obtain external research funds and develop high-quality teaching. Applicants should be proactive in pursuing independent research lines, able to work collaboratively and show evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration. Experience working in higher education and healthcare-related work environments.

Research areas of interest include the design and analysis of clinical studies in the field of infectious diseases, prevention (vaccines) and therapeutic interventions, among others.

The position will be part of an interdisciplinary environment, where he/she will be able to interact with academics in diverse research areas from clinical and preclinical medicine, public health, and epidemiology, among others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead and collaborate to develop independent and internationally recognized research in the field of vaccines, immunomodulatory drugs, antimicrobial therapies, immunotherapies, or other related within the discipline of infectious diseases and infectious diseases epidemiology, leading to the generation of new knowledge with projections over human health.

  • Develop classes and mentor undergraduate or graduate research students from FMED and FBS in the field of infectious diseases, immunology, clinical epidemiology and epidemiological data analysis.

  • To perform research and academic activities that link the scientific interest and capacities of FMED and FBS, with the aim of strengthening the collaborative research performed between both Faculties.

  • To establish collaborations with researchers in FMED, FBS or other academic units within the University aiming to develop interdisciplinary research.

  • To obtain competitive external research funding.

  • To develop outreach activities with an impact on society and the general public.

A person of foreign nationality and who applies from abroad, in case of being selected for the position, will be required to have the corresponding visa, obtained from the consulate in the country of origin, in order to be incorporated into the academic staff of the University.

Once the complete set of application materials has been received, the applicant will be contacted within two months and informed whether or not his/her application has been accepted for further consideration. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture on his/her current research topics and hold interviews with the faculty members from the Selection Committee.

 Application requirements:

  • PhD degree in Epidemiology, Methodology in Clinical Research, or Infectious Diseases is required, with demonstratable training in the ethics, design, execution, and analysis of clinical and epidemiological studies, including advanced biostatistical analysis skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to carry out active independent research and to obtain funding for research.

  • Demonstrate potential for excellence and a strong vocation for all aspects of academic life, be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, and have a genuine interest in getting involved with our graduate programs (especially the doctoral programs).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in English. Applicants do not need to speak Spanish at the moment of the application but should be able to teach in Spanish in the short term (two years).
